Have you ever wondered how you can get your business out on Facebook? Well, you have come to the right place! Today, we’re going to talk about Facebook ads, how to use them to promote your business and the best-designed Facebook ads.

What Are Facebook Ads?

When scrolling through your newsfeed on Facebook, you have most likely run into Facebook ads. These ads are strategically placed on your newsfeed by Facebook. You’ll notice that these ads target you and are related to topics you may have recently searched.

Facebook Ad Design Ideas

I’m going to give a few examples of Facebook ads that pop up in my Facebook newsfeed. The first ad that comes up is Liquid Planner. We actually use Liquid Planner as our internal project management tool. But what you’ll notice here is that Liquid Planner is really targeting me, saying “Are you still managing project schedules manually? Sign up to our site.” What may catch my attention, even more, is the featured photo of a frustrated person looking at his computer. This ad is a remarketing ad, as I was just on Liquid Planner earlier.

The main focal point that drew my attention to this ad was this very frustrated person here, and I was like, “Oh, well, what’s going on with his face? He looks very sad; he looks like he’s upset.” Thus, this ad caught my attention.

The reason we want to have a focal point in our ads is we want to capture attention. When people come across our ads, they are scrolling through their newsfeed, looking at friends’ and family’s posts. That’s why we want to create an ad that stands out.

Facebook Ad Examples

The next ad I come across is one from Entrepreneur. What Entrepreneur is saying is: “Face it, your website sucks. We can help. Learn more.” What’s great about this ad is that it’s written on black. So they’re addressing the problem in an extremely bold way, which is its main point of focus.

As I continue to scroll down through my newsfeed, I come across an ad from Get Me Links. We actually use Get Me Links as a service. The question that is being asked on this ad is, “Does website traffic affect the backlink power?” Then it goes into a guide.

What Get Me Links is doing with this ad is asking a question that their audience is asking. Then they’re solving that question with a guide. This is what I like to call a softball question. So they’re asking, “Does website traffic affect backlink power?” Well, if you’re in the SEO game or you own a website, this is a question you’ve probably asked a million times. And they’re answering that.

Best-Designed Facebook Ads

There are a couple of things to note when creating an effective Facebook ad design. As I explained, many of these ads on my Facebook newsfeed have text over them, which is very powerful. Additionally, Get Me Links’ ad has a little border effect, a unique diagram, which definitely makes it stand out. There’s a lot of functionality around these ads and creatives that you want to think about when you’re learning how to design a Facebook ad. If you’re just using image ads, and they have no moving parts or they don’t have interesting graphics, you’re going to have a harder time standing out in the newsfeed.

The next example I want to use is an ad from Adwords Nerds, a company that serves real estate investors. What’s unique about this ad is their image shows people upside down. This is interesting because as people are scrolling through their Facebook, they’re going to be thinking, “Oh, why are those people upside down?” This is going to grab their attention, right?

This ad captures your attention and makes you look at the ad. And that is our whole point with our ads. We want to grab attention, we want to stand out in the news feed, and we want to be different from everybody else. After we grab people’s attention with the image, they’ll start to read the ad text.

Effective Facebook Ad Design Ideas

Now how do you stand out with your Facebook ads? I’m going to show you a couple of examples from an awning company called Marygrove Awnings out in Michigan, whom we helped expand across three different markets. When I open up their louvered roof ads, I notice there’s a lot of engagement, a lot of comments, and a lot of people liking these ads.

Our strategy here at Conklin Media is to create engaging ads using different styles of ad creative and also get engagement on our posts. We’re a big believer in, if you get engagement on your post, that post can get amplified across Facebook organically for you, making your ad dollars go further.

For one of the ads that we created for Marygrove Awnings, we took a bunch of still images from Facebook and placed their logo in the center. We also have a free no-obligation quote on the ad.

What’s great is we have a ton of really good comments on this ad. People are asking questions, giving testimonials and stating how happy they are with their awnings. In addition to having these comments, we have 19 shares, 14,000 views and 82 likes. So this is considered a pretty decent ad.

You say, “Oh, great, well, that’s a good starting point.” Well, we can also do custom stuff, and we can do really small stuff. So with COVID-19, we quickly acted on our end to get our people back in the game, so we just do simple things like this where we have an image and you have a push-up that says: “Touch-free curbside quoting. Schedule now.” It’s a very simple and small video ad here, and you can see it got some engagement. But this actually drove a ton of results for the client. Because people didn’t know that they had touch-free curbside quoting. 

The reason why you want engagement on your Facebook ads is that when people come across your ads, they’ll see that your company isn’t fake in any way. They’ll be attracted to the fact that people are speaking to the quality of the company. And that, in itself, is preselling the product for you.

How to Design a Facebook Ad

So how do you design effective Facebook ads? What are the best Facebook ad dimensions, formats to use and Facebook ad size options? 

When you’re thinking about how to design a Facebook ad, make sure you’re testing out the different creative styles that Facebook offers you. Not everyone is going to use the same styles or formats. For some ads, we include a testimonial at the top, a video that’s moving up top, an offer right in the center and a carousel of awning products at the bottom. This is a great way to design your ads, as the video captures their attention, while they can also see images of the product.

Another design we’ve used on our ads is to upload a video, have the offer that’s static on the bottom and text that’s narrating the video. This type of video is really good if you have a product or service you need to tell a story with or you need to explain how it works. This allows you to tell about your product or service through both the video and the text. Which is phenomenal for educating your customers.

Be sure to test out different creatives to see what works for your business. Explore different Facebook ad image size options and designs.
